Overview
Tasmania doesn't run a children-only check. Its Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) covers regulated activities involving children and vulnerable adults in one scheme, administered by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) in the Department of Justice. For hiring into aged care, disability and community services, that broader scope is a feature: one registration covers the lot.
The employment-class fee is $137.20 (2026–27) and registration lasts 5 years. From 1 January 2026 Tasmania waived the volunteer-class fee entirely for two years, covering both new and renewing volunteer registrations — timing that has produced a surge of renewals, so processing can run to 40 business days and sometimes longer.
The class rules have teeth: it is an offence to do paid work in a regulated activity while holding only a volunteer-class registration. If a volunteer takes on a paid role, the class must change first. Applications and class changes go through Service Tasmania online.
