AI-powered video pre-employment movement assessment using MediaPipe pose estimation. Seven movements scored with traffic-light ratings and an overall injury risk level. For construction, mining, warehouse, and defence roles.
Overview
Pre-employment functional movement screening identifies biomechanical limitations and asymmetries that increase the risk of musculoskeletal injury in physically demanding roles. Mining, construction, warehousing, and defence organisations use movement screens to baseline new starters and identify candidates who may need conditioning or physiotherapy review before commencing physical duties.
Refchecks delivers the functional movement screen via video-based AI analysis using MediaPipe pose estimation technology. Candidates record short video clips of seven prescribed movements on their smartphone. The AI analyses joint positions, range of motion, symmetry, and compensatory patterns in real time — producing a traffic-light score for each movement and an overall injury risk level (low, moderate, or elevated).
This is a pre-screening tool, not a full Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE). It identifies candidates who warrant further assessment by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist before commencing heavy physical duties. Results do not constitute medical advice.
What's Included
MediaPipe analyses joint positions and movement quality across seven prescribed patterns. No specialist equipment required — just a smartphone.
Each movement receives a traffic-light score. The overall injury risk level — low, moderate, or elevated — guides decisions about further physiotherapy assessment.
The screen identifies candidates warranting further review. Elevated risk candidates are flagged for physiotherapy assessment — not automatically excluded.
Candidates record movement clips on their own smartphone. The guided assessment flow explains each movement before recording.
Video recordings are used only for the assessment and deleted after processing. No footage is retained beyond what is required for the assessment report.
Process
The employer initiates the functional movement screen from the dashboard. The candidate receives a link and instructions on space and clothing requirements.
Each of the seven movements is demonstrated via a guidance video. The candidate records a short clip of themselves performing the movement.
MediaPipe processes each clip, analysing joint positions, range of motion, symmetry, and compensatory patterns. Traffic-light scores are generated per movement.
The employer receives a report showing scores per movement, the overall injury risk level, and recommendations for elevated-risk candidates.
