It is the NSW Government front door for licence records, operated by NSW Fair Trading on behalf of several regulators — including SafeWork NSW and the NSW Police Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) — covering building trades, high risk work, White Cards, security, property, motor industry and more, searchable by licence number or by name.

Which licences does Refchecks verify?

Construction credentials: the general construction induction White Card, High Risk Work Licences, and trade licences including home building, electrical, plumbing and gasfitting, and air conditioning and refrigeration. The NSW register holds other record types as well — property and real estate, conveyancers, motor dealers and repairers, asbestos and demolition, and NSW Police SLED security licences — which sit outside what we verify today.

The candidate uploads their card and we read it, then we check those details against the NSW register — one check, both sources. We record the holder name, status and expiry where the register shows them, and where the card and the register disagree the result goes to a reviewer rather than passing or failing automatically.

Each state maintains its own registers. The NSW register covers New South Wales records; interstate licences are verified against the issuing state’s register. High risk work licences are the main exception in practice — they are mutually recognised nationally, so a current licence from any state is valid Australia-wide.
